Tips for Summer Self-Care

As students and staff head towards the well-deserved finish line of the 2025-2026 school year, it’s time to start thinking about your summer plans! How can you infuse self-care into your summer plans? Do you want to be more physically active and reap the benefits of our amazing summer weather in Michigan? Great! The summer is the perfect time to go outdoors for some walking, running, swimming, biking, tennis, pickle ball, and various sports. As we increase our movement, we also need to think about how we’re fueling our body both before and after our physical activity.

Don’t have much experience with cooking? Summer break is a great opportunity to expand your cooking knowledge both inside and outside of the kitchen. Spend some time exploring some local farmers markets, get your family involved with your weekly grocery shopping where you can choose a new fruit or vegetable to try each week, and make meals a fun, collaborative experience for the entire family. Our larger department, MHealthy, has some wonderful healthy recipes and cooking videos that you can utilize at home. We hope you can expand your palate this summer with some healthy home-cooked meals. Not interested in moving more or eating healthy? There are many other areas of wellness that you can focus on this summer including mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, environment, social, or financial. On behalf of Project Healthy Schools, we wish you a fun, safe, and healthy summer break!
