The PHS team has been busy supporting local events and organizations this past fall. We always enjoy connecting with local partners to support their wellness efforts for the larger community and to give back however we can. Here are a few events the PHS team has recently supported:
On September 19th, the PHS team attended the University of Michigan’s “Be Well in the Big House” event hosted by MHealthy. This annual event brings University of Michigan faculty and staff together at the Michigan Football Stadium to connect with local health resources and to participate in various wellness activities on the football field, such as football skills and thrills, Yoga, Zumba, cardio drumming, wheelchair frisbee, and exercises to improve balance. The PHS team was able to meet and connect with hundreds of various faculty and staff from across the university at the half-day event and share wellness tips and resources that can support themselves and their families both at work and at home.
On October 4th, the PHS team attended the University of Michigan’s “Victors Day” event. For over 15 years, Michigan Athletics has partnered with the Tom Wall Foundation to host an event for more than 500 persons with special needs. Kindergarten through Adult Special Education programs from across the county come for a field trip so their students can experience the joy of being a Michigan Athlete for a day, participating in various activity stations, and interacting with student-athletes from across varsity and club sports as well as guest departments. PHS had an incredible day connecting with our local special education students and teaching them how to build a healthy plate with their favorite foods.
On December 12th, the PHS team volunteered at the University of Michigan’s “Maize & Blue Cupboard”. College students and staff are experiencing food insecurity at alarming rates. The Maize & Blue Cupboard provides various resources, such as food, kitchen and cooking supplies, personal and household supplies, and support for those in need, to ensure all members of the university community receive equitable access to healthy, nutritious, and nourishing food. The PHS team thoroughly enjoyed our time volunteering as we helped to unload the food truck, stock shelves, and prepare food.
